UNIONDALE, N.Y. – Remember that time Daniel Cormier was embroiled in controversy for UFC 210’s “towelgate” in Buffalo, N.Y.?

Or how about the time Sergio da Silva used every sleight-of-foot trick he knew to try to fool the scale – and the New York State Athletic Commission – at the weigh-ins for Bellator NYC in June?

Well, it’s pretty safe to assume the NYSAC remembers those incidents, and the commission members were taking no chances today at the weigh-ins for UFC on FOX 25 in Uniondale, N.Y.

Eryk Anders (7-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) needed the towel brought out to make the middleweight limit for his fight on the prelims against Rafael Natal (21-8-1 MMA, 9-6-1 UFC). But the second Anders laid a finger on the towel, the commission members were all over it. (To be fair, Anders may only have been trying to pull back the towel to see what his weight was going to be sans shorts; he came in at 185.6 pounds in the buff, so he had a few ounces to spare.)

Check out the video above to relive some memories of Cormier in April and da Silva in June, and to see how the NYSAC responded in a hurry when Anders was on the scale at the official weigh-ins this morning.

UFC on FOX 25 takes place Saturday at NYCB LIVE at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, N.Y. The card airs on FOX following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass.

Bellator NYC official weigh-in highlights, including Sergio da Silva's foot tricks

NEW YORK – The fights are official for Bellator’s Saturday return to pay-per-view at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Today, the fighters stepped on the scale in Manhattan to make weight for their bouts, and those at the top end of the bill all hit their marks without issue. That includes a trio of title fights, as well as two highly anticipated fights in the main and co-main events.

But perhaps most interesting was preliminary card bantamweight Sergio da Silva, who was scheduled for a 130-pound catchweight fight against Matt Rizzo. Da Silva wasn’t close to the 130-pound mark – but appeared to try several different times to see if he could balance differently, or keep his heels off the scale, or even stand on it with one foot, all in the hopes of hitting the mark.

Da Silva came in at 137.6 pounds.

Check out the full video highlights from today’s official proceedings above.

Sergio da Silva had many tricks for the scale at Bellator NYC – but the scale and NYSAC still won

NEW YORK – The New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) apparently learned its lesson from the weigh-in fiasco involving UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier in Buffalo earlier this year.

Sergio da Silva (6-8 MMA, 0-1 BMMA), scheduled to meet Matt Rizzo (9-2 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) in a 130-pound catchweight fight on Saturday, did his best to trick the scale today. But still, he came in more than seven pounds over the planned limit for the Bellator 180 bout, which takes place at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The commission members weren’t having any of da Silva’s antics. From beginning to end, it took nearly two minutes for da Silva to get his official weight. He started by attempting to have his corner hold his towel, then proceeded to take his foot off the scale multiple times before eventually being ordered to stand still. At one point, he told the commission members he was going to leave and come back later to make another attempt, but was told that wouldn’t be allowed.

It was one of the more unusual weigh-ins in recent memory, and while Cormier’s alleged towel-holding trickery was somewhat sneaky, the NYSAC ensured da Silva wasn’t going to get away with anything.

Da Silva’s final weight was 137.6 pounds, but because it was already a catchweight affair, he did not receive any penalties. Rizzo weighed in at 133.6 pounds for the fight, which streams on MMAjunkie ahead of the televised portion of Bellator 180 on Spike and the Bellator NYC pay-per-view card.

Watch the video above to see the entirety of da Silva’s bizarre weigh-in, and check out this morning’s proceedings in full below.
