'He smoke too much:' Mairbek Taisumov's callout of Nate Diaz, others was as great as his KO win

It’s clear Mairbek Taisumov had a lot of pent up emotions following a career-long layoff ahead of UFC Fight Night 115. From his performance to his post-fight interview, he let it all out.

Taisumov (26-5 MMA, 6-1 UFC) picked up his fifth consecutive win in the lightweight division – all by stoppage – when he put Felipe Silva (8-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) away in just 84 seconds at UFC Fight Night 115, which took place at Ahoy Rotterdam in Rotterdam, Netherlands, and streamed on UFC Fight Pass.

Following his incredible one-punch finish, Taisumov put the 155-pound division on notice.

“Really happy to be back in this octagon,” Taisumov told UFC commentator Dan Hardy. “I say this before, and I’m going to tell this again: I’m here not to talk, I’m here to smash, smash anyone who steps into the octagon with me. I need top 10 (opponent). I need top 10. Anyone. These guys don’t want to fight me. I ask all top-10 fighters; nobody want to fight me. I am five finishes in a row, all knockouts, TKOs. Hey, UFC, Sean (Shelby), I think I deserve that.”

Taisumov followed that energetic statement by naming a few specific foes he would like to get his hands on next. Michael Chiesa and former champ Anthony Pettis were among those, but no callout had the zest of that directed at Nate Diaz.

“Michael Chiesa, he say if I beat someone else he wants to fight me,” Taisumov said. “But since I finish three guys in a row, he doesn’t answer anymore. Anthony Pettis, he says I’m not famous enough to fight me. (Nate) Diaz says he’s the best, Nate Diaz is the best; he says if UFC pays him $20 million he’s going to fight me in my home country, but I think he smoke too much.”

After nearly 17 months away from competition, Mairbek Taisumov returned with an incredible finish, needing just one shot to hand Felipe Silva his first loss.

The lightweight bout took place on the prelims of Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 115 event, which streamed live on UFC Fight Pass from Ahoy Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

Both men looked lively early, anxious to impress with their capable striking. A few exchanges from both men showed their skills but came up short before Taisumov landed an absolute stunner. With Silva charging forward with a combination, Taisumov slipped a big right and landed one of is own directly on the button, face-planting his opponent in a devastating one-punch finish.

Taisumov (27-5 MMA, 6-1 UFC) now boasts a five-fight winning streak. Silva (8-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) comes up short for the first time as a pro.

UFC Fight Night 115 in Netherlands gets 2 new additions

Two new fights have been added to the lineup for next month’s UFC Fight Night 115 event.

Officials recently announced lightweights Felipe Silva (8-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) vs. Mairbek Taisumov (26-5 MMA, 5-1 UFC) and welterweights Darren Till (14-0-1 MMA, 2-0-1 UFC) vs. Bojan Velickovic (15-4-1 MMA, 2-1-1 UFC).

UFC Fight Night 115 takes place Sept. 2 at Ahoy Rotterdam in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The event airs on FS1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass, though the bout order hasn’t been finalized.

Silva, a 32-year-old Brazilian, made his UFC debut in April 2016 and scored a TKO victory over Shane Campbell. It marked his seventh stoppage in eight career wins. He now fights for the first time in 15 months.

He takes on Taisumov, 28, who looks for his fifth straight UFC victory. All of the wins have come via knockout during his recent winning streak, and he picked up “Performance of the Night” bonuses in his recent wins over Alan Patrick and Damir Hadzovic.

Till, meanwhile, recently signed a new deal with the UFC. After a “Fight of the Night” draw with Nicolas Dalby, the 24-year-old Englishman recently scored a decision victory over Jessin Ayari to maintain an undefeated record since his 2013 pro debut.

He meets Velickovic, a 28-year-old Serbian now based in Colorado. The former RFA champ recently scored a knockout victory over Nico Musoke for his “Performance of the Night” bonus.
