Dakota Cochrane vs. Ciro Rodrigues headlines LFA 25 in Nebraska

The main event is set for LFA 25 and the organization’s debut in Nebraska.

Officials recently announced a welterweight headliner between local product Dakota Cochrane (29-12) and Ciro Rodrigues (21-6).

LFA 25 takes place Oct. 20 at Ralston Arena in Omaha, Neb., and the main card airs on AXS TV.

Cochrane, a 31-year-old Nebraskan, has won two straight and six of his past eight. The former Legacy FC fighter also held the record for RFA appearances (eight, including three headliners) before the two organizations merged in 2016. He’s also registered fights with Bellator, Titan FC and Victory FC, and he had a short run on “The Ultimate Fighter 15” after losing an elimination-round bout to James Vick. Twenty of his 29 victories have come via stoppage.

He meets Rodrigues, a 28-year-old Brazilian who’s won three straight and eight of his past nine. The Nova Uniao fighter and former Jungle Fight champion, who turned pro at 17, recently headlined LFA 19 and scored a first-round TKO victory over former UFC fighter David Michaud. It was his 17th stoppage in 21 career victories.

Additional LFA 25 fights will be announced in the coming weeks.

Victory FC 58 results: Dakota Cochrane submits Maki Pitolo with 2 second left in round

After fending off a seemingly endless stream of submission attempts, Dakota Cochrane turned the tables on Maki Pitolo and finished the Victory FC 58 main event with a submission of his own.

Early on in the welterweight bout, which headlined the UFC Fight Pass-streamed card at Baxter Arena in Omaha, Neb., it appeared it would not be Cochrane’s (29-12) night. Pitolo (8-4) put him in numerous compromising positions, including taking his back and working for a rear-naked choke or neck crank.

Despite the adversity, Cochrane remained calmed and waited for his opportunity to arise. He got the upper hand on Pitolo in the midst of a second-round scramble, grabbing ahold of the neck with a guillotine choke.

Pitolo was able to handle the initial attempt, but when Cochrane adjusted and rolled over into mount, the pressure was too great. Cochrane fully locked in the choke with fewer than 10 seconds remaining in the second round, and even though Pitolo was clearly aware of how much time was left, he couldn’t resist tapping out at the 4:58 mark of Round 2.

With the win, Cochrane improved to 6-2 in his past eight fights. He said in his post-fight interview that he’s interested in a bout with UFC and Strikeforce veteran Yuri Villefort (10-5) next.

Martinez submits Plazola in 62nd pro fight

Alonzo Martinez (42-20-1) came out of the gate on fire in his lightweight bout with Mike Plazola (12-8). He kept up the pace until he secured a guillotine choke, which forced his opponent to tap out.

Martinez, who made his MMA debut in March 2003, picked up his third win in his past four fights when he rushed Plazola at the opening bell and before long connected with a punch, which led to a knockdown. “Zo Diddy” attempted to finish the fight with a flurry of strikes, but Plazola kept himself out of danger.

Eventually the fight returned to the feet, but it didn’t stay upright for long. Plazola exposed his neck, and that’s when Martinez dropped down guillotine choke, forcing the tap at the 3:47 mark of Round 1.

Complete Victory FC 58 results included:

Victory FC 58 features Dakota Cochrane vs. Maki Pitolo on July 22

A welterweight contest headlines Victory FC’s next event, with Dakota Cochrane vs. Maki Pitolo.

Victory FC officials recently confirmed the plans with MMAjunkie.

Cochrane (28-12) vs. Pitolo (8-3) now serves as the main event of Victory FC 58, which takes place July 22 at Baxter Arena in Omaha, Neb. The card streams live on UFC Fight Pass.

Additional bouts are expected to be announced shortly.

Cochrane was in action earlier this month at Victory FC Fight Night 5, were he picked up a decision win over David Castillo. The result snapped a disappointing two-fight skid for Cochrane, who had gone 9-1 in his 10 appearances before the setbacks.

Meanwhile, Pitolo looks to rebound from a recent setback to Kassius Holdorf at December’s Victory FC 54 event. “Coconut Bombz” had built a seven-fight winning streak prior to the loss and now looks to work his way back to the top of the division.
