If he’s not already there, it’s time to put 20-year-old Mexican featherweight prospect Fernando Padilla on your radar.

At Friday’s LFA 25 event, Padilla (9-1) capitalized on his opponent’s brief lapse to score a slick submission over vet Darrick Minner (19-7).

LFA 25 took place at Ralston Arena in Omaha, Neb., and it aired on AXS TV.

Padilla picked up his seventh stoppage – all of which have come in the first round – with a slick triangle choke/armbar combo to force the tap.

Check it out above.

Also on the card, big-show vet and hometown favorite Dakota Cochrane (30-12) rallied to pick up a split-decision win over welterweight Ciro Rodrigues (21-7) with some late ground and pound, and Kassius Holdorf (10-4) rallied to score a second-round TKO victory over fellow welterweight Jordon Larson (8-4).

LFA 25 results: Dakota Cochrane's late rally leads to split decision win

Dakota Cochrane sent a hometown crowd into jubilance on Friday when he picked up a split decision over Ciro Rodrigues in the LFA 25 main event.

The Nebraska-born fighter struggled at points in the fight, but a late rally from Cochrane (30-12) persuaded the judges to give him the nod over Rodrigues (21-7) in the AXS TV-televised welterweight headliner at The Ralston Arena in Omaha.

It was a gritty fight throughout the entirety of 15 minutes. Both fighters battled for takedowns, control in the clinch and heavyweight strikes from a distance. Nothing monumental landed for either side, and the first two rounds were essentially a coin toss.

The third round was going much the same way, but then in the final minute Cochrane scored a key takedown which quickly allowed him to advance to mount. He unleashed some heavy shots on Rodrigues, and although he couldn’t get the finish, it gave him a clear-cut third round, and ultimately the win.

“I knew he was tough and I appreciate everything he did,” Cochrane said in his post-fight interview. “That last round just really won over everything. I was gutting it out. I was trying as hard as I could.”

Fernando Padilla wins by slick submission

Fernando Padilla (9-1) waited for his opportunity lock in a submission in his featherweight co-headliner against Darrick Minner (19-7). When he did, he locked in a beautiful triangle-armbar combination finish.

Minner came out aggressively to start the contest, winging big strikes and attacking with takedowns. Padilla failed on his first submission attempt, but then he locked in the slick finish at the 3:10 mark of Round 1.

Officials recently announced a welterweight headliner between local product Dakota Cochrane (29-12) and Ciro Rodrigues (21-6).

LFA 25 takes place Oct. 20 at Ralston Arena in Omaha, Neb., and the main card airs on AXS TV.

LFA 19 highlights: Watch Ciro Rodrigues spoil UFC vet David Michaud's homecoming with sick left

Filed under: AXS TV Fights, News, Videos

Homecoming was the theme of Friday night’s LFA 19 event in South Dakota. It went very well for one of the fighters at the top of the bill. For another? Not so much.

In the main event, UFC veteran David Michaud (11-4) hoped to thrill his home fans. Instead, Stateside newcomer Ciro Rodrigues (21-6), from Brazil, ended his night early thanks to a wicked left hand and a few punches on the ground for good measure.

In the co-feature, though, flyweight Sid Bice (7-1), a South Dakota native now fighting out of Denver, moved to 2-0 for LFA with a dominantn decision win over Ken Porter (10-4).

LFA 19 took place at Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D. The main card aired on AXS TV.

Check out all of the highlights of the main and co-main event above. Additionally, see how Maikel Perez made easy work of Derrick Mandell, as well as Maurice Greene’s devastation of Jermaine McDermott with a first-round triangle choke.

LFA 19 results: Brazilian newcomer Ciro Rodrigues devastates David Michaud

Fighting in the U.S. for the first time, Brazilian Ciro Rodrigues (21-6) made quite the impression, scoring a first-round stoppage of three-time UFC veteran David Michaud (11-4).

The welterweight affair headlined Friday’s LFA 19 event, which aired on AXS TV from Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Rodrigues opened the contest with a few strong low kicks, while Michaud countered with strong punches up top. A few early clinches proved stalemates, and the pair returned to striking, where Rodrigues absolutely devastated his opponent with a huge left hand. Michaud crashed to the floor, and Rodrigues followed up with a few punches to seal the result at the 1:57 mark of the first frame.

In the night’s co-feature, flyweight Sid Bice (7-1) improved to 2-0 under the LFA banner with a clearcut decision win over Ken Porter (10-4).

It was a quick pace to start, with both men switching stances and moving well to open the contest. Bice got the first advantage, sweeping his opponent off-balance and pushing the action to the floor, where they remained until a stand-up in the closing seconds of the round.

Bice was aggressive again in the second, opening up with a high kick and then a wild rolling escape into a successful takedown, earning his way to top position. Porter eventually escaped and looked to counter but wound up only forcing a few scrambles.

The pattern continued in the third, with Porter looking lively but simply unable to stop the takedown, allowing Bice to cruise to a decision win, 30-27 on all three cards.

LFA 19 results include:

  • Ciro Rodrigues def. David Michaud via TKO (punches) – Round 1, 1:57
  • Sid Bice def. Ken Porter via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
  • Marcus Edwards def. Clarence Jordan via unanimous decision (29-27, 29-27, 29-27)
  • Maikel Perez def. Derrick Mandell via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
  • Maurice Greene def. Jermaine McDermott via submission (triangle choke) – Round 1, 3:06
  • Emeka Ifekandu def. Steven Merrill via TKO (punch) – Round 3, 1:25
  • J.P. Saint Louis def. Tyler Ray via submission (guillotine choke) – Round 1, 1:44
