Cage Warriors 89 heads to Belgium in November, including Cindy Dandois vs. Kerry Hughes

Cage Warriors will head to Belgium in November, and one of the country’s fan favorites will be featured on the card.

Cindy Dandois (8-3) has been booked for a 140-pound catchweight fight against Kerry Hughes (3-2) at Cage Warriors 89, the promotion today announced.

Cage Warriors 89 will take place Nov. 25 at Lotto Arena in Antwerp, Belgium. The card will stream live on UFC Fight Pass.

Dandois will be looking to rebound from a loss earlier this year to Alexis Davis at UFC Fight Night 108 in Nashville, which was her UFC debut. Prior to that, she had a three-fight winning streak, including back-to-back submission wins as an Invicta featherweight over Megan Anderson and Jessamyn Duke.

Hughes, from England, will be returning to Cage Warriors for the first time since 2014, when she stopped Amanda Kelly with a second-round TKO at Cage Warriors 69. Earlier this year, she was stopped with a first-round TKO against Zarh Fairn dos Santos at a British Challenge MMA event.

The card also will feature Dandois’ brother, Ben Dandois (6-3), as well as Belgium’s Tommy Depret (12-5), against opponents to be named later.

Cindy Dandois says she's been released from UFC roster after 1 fight

It took Cindy Dandois more than eight years as a pro to finally reach the UFC, but her dream of competing on MMA’s biggest stage has come to an end after just one octagon appearance.

Dandois (8-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC), a featherweight and bantamweight who’s also a good friend and training partner of former UFC champ Miesha Tate, said she is no longer part of the UFC roster.

“Battlecat” made her lone promotional appearance at UFC Fight Night 108 in April, dropping a unanimous decision to former 135-pound title challenger Alexis Davis in a heavily panned 15-minute affair. She landed 47 significant strikes and landed five takedowns in defeat.

Dandois shared the news of her release on social media and expressed her disappointment in never getting the opportunity to compete against newly crowned UFC women’s featherweight champion Cristiane Justino (via Instagram):

Dandois, 32, said she hopes to find a new home for her career as soon as possible. Prior to joining the UFC roster, she made three Invicta FC appearances.

The Belgian fighter owns career victories over former Invicta FC champ Megan Anderson and former Strikeforce titleholder Marlos Coenen.
