This Friday and Saturday several boxers begin the journey to the USA Boxing National Championships. 75 boxers registered for this weekend’s competition including Cleveland area Olympian Raynell Williams. Also slated to be back in action is Stow native Kenny Porter II. Some serious talent will be on display this weekend and probably some big time promoters looking to grab boxing’s next big superstar. Doors open at 795 W Hopocan in Barberton Oh at 6:00 on Friday with fights beginning at 7:30pm. Saturday doors open at 4:00 with fights at 5:30. Only 15 dollars to see top USA fighters battle it out. I almost forgot to mention that middleweight world champion Kelly Pavlik’s trainer Jack Loew will be working the corner for some of his amateur pugilists. At this time its unclear if Pavlik himself will be in attendance. If he does make the short commute he might catch a glimpse of one of his future opponents and not even realize it.
